Dr. Stevenson is an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases and the Associate Medical Director of the Department of Epidemiology for the OSU Health System. He is also Associate Professor in the Division of Epidemiology at the OSU School of Public Health. He joined the OSU faculty in 2005. Dr. Stevenson's clinical interests focus on healthcare-associated infections and antimicrobial resistance in the healthcare setting. His major research interest is directed at understanding the development of healthcare-associated infections and examining infection control interventions to limit their occurrence and impact. One area of emphasis currently is examining strategies to optimize the prescribing of antimicrobial agents to prevent the development and spread of resistance. This research includes diverse healthcare settings beyond OSU including those with limited resources such as rural hospitals and long-term care facilities. More broadly, Dr. Stevenson is interested in applying the principles of healthcare epidemiology to improving many aspects of clinical care. He is a member of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America. He currently serves as a member the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC).
