Piece of tooth under tongue?03/15/2006 |
About 5 months ago, a bump appeared under my tongue in the gum area. I was not concerned because it did not hurt, but I did notice that it would swell at times and appear white when I applied pressure to it. I assumed it was some sort of pimple or blister, but after examining it more closely and applying more pressure to it, I realized it was a piece of something. I used a needle and was able to get the white "rock" out. Have you ever heard of pieces of tooth coming to the surface of a patient`s gum??? I have had my wisdom teeth out and also had a root canal in my front tooth (my teeth are very healthy and when the root canal was done, there was no visible reason for why the tooth should hurt, but the root was dead and the tooth was extremely painful). These are the only reasonable explanations I have for why a piece of tooth was under my tongue.
A piece of tooth could not have been under your tongue. It is possible that you could have had a "stone" form in a salivary gland. It is similar to kidney stones in the bladder or gall stones. They are crystalline -ike formations in these areas. If you were able to remove it and all traces are gone, you are probably fine. If there are still some symptoms or a lump in that area, it would be good to be evaluated by your dentist. This is not a common problem in that area and may indicate that there could be an underlying cause that has not been resolved. A visit to the dentist would give you peace of mind and may prevent a recurrence.
