Skin Care and Diseases
Which is which?
what is the difference between von recklinghausen desease and skin cancer?can you give us some pictures?
Von Recklinghausen is a syndrome with many manifestations. It is one of the genetic neurofibromatoses syndromes, Neurofibromatoses Type 1. Skin manifestations most commonly include neurofibromas which are soft nodules or lumps on the skin, and may be numerous/widespread, as well as dark flat spots on the skin especially the axillae or armpits, known as cafe au lait macules. Skin cancer is a separate spectrum of dermatologic neoplasms and classified into melanoma and nonmelanoma skin cancers which include basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas. The most common is basal cell carcinoma. They all present as skin growths, usually but not exclusively on sun-exposed areas of the skin such as the face, scalp, back of hands, etc. The American Academy of Dermatology has a collection of brochures and photos of these different conditions.
