Pain lower left side of body

07/03/2007

Question:

I had a pain in the lower left side of my body probably just below naval level in the night. It was probably on a scale of 4 in the pain level. It lasted at night then in the morning it decreases to a small annoyance only. If I stretch body to the right side I can feel a dull ache occur. If I depressed the area a small ache. I have had diviticulitis and thought it may be this. But the pain was never acute like the episode of diviticulitis that sent me to the ER. My doctor examined me and said nothing to worry about. I am still concerned, however. I did have a uric acid test and it was elevated above normal. Still have slight discomfort in the area. Should I be concerned?

Answer:

It does not sound serious. A cat scan of your abdomen will help to rule out diverticulitis or other infection.
