I have a nodule about the size a english pea, it was detected may 2007, it has not increased in size as of 8/07,my lung Doctor has decided not to remove it or treat it in anyway untill it should begin to grow.It is in the top left lobe, he was unable to get a bio threw the airway and he don`t want to go threw the chest unless he has to.Do I need to get a second opinion?
Most nodules that size are not cancer. It should however be followed closely, usually every 3 months. If is grows, then a biopsy with a scope is usually the next step.
If the nodule is "spiculated" (your doctor can tell you this) or if you are a smoker, then the risk of cancer is higher. These factors weigh into whether to do a biopsy sooner.
