Pulp Testing

04/23/2010

Question:

What is pulp testing? Where is it located in the tooth and how does it form? Is it healthy if you feel pain also?

Answer:

Pulp testing is a procedure to see if the nerve of the tooth is still alive.  If you feel sensation on the tooth, then it is alive.  The sensation can be hot, cold, or sweet sensitivity.

They can either use a machine or ice.  For the machine, they place a tip on the outside of the tooth.  You raise your hand as soon as you feel the sensation in the tooth.  It's very easy and non-invasive.
