COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)

PFT Testing

05/05/2011

Question:

I recently had a visit with the Pulmonologist and asked if another PFT should be done. I was told why this test should be done since I am a smoker. Is this the correct way to address emphysema patients who are concerned that their condition is getting worse?

Answer:

Thank you for visiting NetWellness and for your question. The best way to stop progression of lung disease in people who smoke is to quit smoking. There are many treatment options now available to help people quit smoking. Spirometry can be useful in monitoring disease progression.
