Prognosis for MG (11/29/2000 04:15PM) |
| If the thymectomy has been successfully done, what chances does the patient have to get totally healthy? There are very rare hereditary myasthenic syndromes but the clinical pictures are different (onset, pattern of weakness, etc.) than typical myasthenia gravis. While myasthenia gravis is not hereditary in any simple way (like hair color or eye color), it does occur more often in families with a predisposition to autoimmune diseases (lupus, thyroid disease, juvenile onset diabetes, etc.) in ... | |

MG with thymoma anf hyperplagic thymus!!! (02/06/2004 02:31PM) |
| Upon confirmation of MG diagnosis (elevated Anti-AchR antibody titer), I have taken mestinon 60 mg 2-4 times/d and prednisolone 25 mg /every other day and I experience a relative improvement in my symptoms. 4. I think that my disease is a antimyasthenic thymmoma with hyperplagic myasthenic thymus, because the tumor had suppression effects on the hyperplagic thymus I had no symptoms before the resection of the tumor, Is this correct? With treatment and awareness of symptoms of worsening, a ... | |

VATS Thymectomy for my 16 yr old son (10/30/2003 08:45AM) |
| My 16 yr old son was dx with mg 6mths ago. We met with the surgeon and he said my son is a candidate for VATS and recommends this procedure (my son is thin 5`5" and 125lbs) This surgeon performs around 15 to 20 thymectomies a year and is extremely qualified. I think most MG experts would recommend a thymectomy for a 16 year old with general MG. | |

MG and other diseases with pregnancy (10/23/2003 10:17AM) |
| I have MG, RSDS and Polycystic Disease. I can only comment that MG patients can have healthy infants, often without worsening of their MG symptoms. Certainly, you do run the risk of making the MG worse. | |

Myasthenia gravis (09/20/2003 11:11AM) |
| do you see anything wrong in haveing a glass of wine with my meals in the evening In my opinion, the medical profession has difficulty with advising to encourage or "allow" patients to drink alcohol in moderation. A single glass of wine with a meal would provide an overall health benefit for a healthy individual. The patient with myasthenia gravis may appreciate some increase of weakness in the hours after drinking. | |

HepBVaccine with MG and SLE (07/18/2003 08:47AM) |
| I`m required to receive the hepatitis B vaccine to begin work as a respiratory therapist. I`ve read articles about individuals developing multiple sclerosis and other autoimmune illnesses after being vaccinated. My question is since I already have autoimmune illness, do I stand a greater risk of developing other illnesses such as MS? Allow me first to say that the best available evidence does NOT indicate that vaccinations lead to development of or exacerbation of MS. In fact, protection ... | |

CELLCEPT SIDE EFFECT IE: SHINGLES OR STAPH (07/02/2003 08:28AM) |
| ARE THERE ANY REPORTS ABOUT CELLCEPT AND A CONNECTION TO SHINGLES AND/OR STAPH INFECTIONS? Cellcept (like all treatments for MG, except Mestinon and other cholinesterase inhibitors) suppresses the immune system and could place a patient at risk for infection. CELLCEPT SIDE EFFECT IE: SHINGLES OR STAPH 2003-07-02 08:28:43.0 | |

Myasthenia & Alzheimer`s (06/16/2003 08:21AM) |
| Has there been any research done in regard to the lack of acetylcholine found during autopsies in the brain Alzheimer`s victims and Myasthenia Gravis patients? In other words, is the Myasthenic more at risk to develop Alzheimers? Alzheimer`s is a common disease of the elderly and it would be expected that some MG patients could also have Alzheimer`s, but this would be a random occurrence. | |

MG & MGN3 (06/09/2003 08:18AM) |
| I got it at age 13 and had a thymectomy at age 16 and in remission since 18. My question, are there any adverse effects to taking mgn3 to boost my immune system? Any product, such as mgn3, that claims to help such a wide range of diseases as diabetes, hepatitis, viral infections and more is likely to be of NO value. Since you are doing well from the MG perspective, why take a risk on an unknown, poorly evaluated chemical? | |

Cellcept and cancer (05/13/2003 09:07AM) |
| In a previous answer it was mentioned that cellcept has a chance for producing cancer. I was wondering were you talking about lymphoma or did you mean types of skin cancers? The information regarding cellcept is inadequate to give a precise determination if an increased risk of cancer occurs with Cellcept use. |
