Sulfate (01/09/2008 10:44AM)
I need to know if sulfate can give a allergic reaction, every time I am drinking a Savanah Dry my face, ears are swelling up and is very red and itchy? Thank you Sulfates themselves are chemical side chains in a number of drugs; these is still controversy as to whether patients with a sulfonamide (a sulfur antibiotic) allergy are susceptible to cross reactions with other sulfur side chain containing drugs.  With respect to the Savannah Dry, there is not much scientific evidence to ...

Delayed allergic reaction to contrast medium? (12/04/2007 01:14PM)
I had a CT scan with contrast a week ago. In the future, I would either avoid contrast material or be pre-treated with the standard protocol (prednisone 50mg 13, 7, 1 hour before contrast; benadryl 50 mg 1 hour before contrast and use a low osmololity contrast agent).   An alternative if contrast is absolutely required would be to use a different contrast material (i.e. gadolinium). Delayed allergic reaction to contrast medium?

Leftover symptoms from Bactrim reaction (11/16/2007 10:46AM)
Not realizing what had caused the fever in the first place, 6 weeks ago I was prescribed Bactrim for a sinus infection. About a week ago I started taking impramine for anxiety attacks (which had been dormant until I had the bad reaction to bactrim) and for the past several days I have been taking ibuprofen for cramps.   Until this is further clarified, I would avoid the antibiotics you were taking when all of these reactions occurred (Bactrim, Levaquin...)

Cannot eat fruit (10/10/2007 12:42PM)
I really would love to eat fruit again!   You would need to be tested (skin and/or serum tests) to determine if you make specific IgE (allergic) antibody to banana protein(s).   Because skin testing can lead to false positive reactions, a specific food challenge is often necessary for confirming the reaction.

Allergy to Tylenol and Advil (10/08/2007 02:40PM)
I am being treated by a certified allergist where he has tested me etc. My question is, if I am allergic to both what can I take when I have a headache, fever, mentral cramps etc?   Second, there are non-acetylated agents like trilisate and disalcid that might be tolerated as the reactions to aspirin and NSAIDS seem to involve acetyl groups and patients with true aspirin/NSAID sensitivity seem to tolerate these medications.   There are several well published protocols for aspirin ...

Wondering if I am allergic to alcohol? (09/14/2007 10:30AM)
The symptoms I am having is itching, my scalp just feels like it is crawling, my checks itch, and tonight was the worst, the inside of my check got a little swollen, my tongue itched, my eyes itched, it last about an hour.   For example if you have underlying allergies to trees it is possible you are experiencing something called the oral itch syndrome where people get the types of symptoms you are experiencing as a result of eating or drinking something that contains potatoes, carrots,...

High absolute eosinophils (09/14/2007 10:30AM)
I`ve recently had a blood work-up where everything was normal except for my absolute eosinophils which were 802 with the norm being 15-500 cells/uL. High eosinophils could suggest many things including underlying allergic diseases that you may not be aware of such as asthma, a potential drug reaction, and certain types of infection. This test should be repeated and if it is still elevated then you should see a board certified internal medicine trained allergist/immunologist experienced in ...

What cigarette brands contain clove oil? (09/04/2007 02:39PM)

I am not aware of clove oil causing a pleural effusion or eosinophilia.   Certain drug reactions can present with eosinophilia and pleural effusions but I have no knowledge what other medications you are on.   There are several systemic disorders (malignancies, parasitism, eosinophilic pneumonias...)&
